Ryan Keen - The best things in my life

Ryan has kindly answered these questions for me as a continuation for my university brief at the minute, where I am specifically looking at Kal Lavelle and  Ryan Keen. I will keep you all posted on the final designs but for now here are Ryans 'best things':

Best decision
To quit work and do music full time. It was a massive gamble but the definitely the right choice.

Best compliment
When Nick Benjamin (a guitar luthier for the likes of Eric Roche, Newton Faulkner. and Thomas Leeb) listed me as one of his official players.

Best Moment
That’s so hard! I’ve been lucky to travel a bit and have had some incredible moments.... I’ve skydived over Hawaii and swam in the Arctic Ocean under the northern lights.

Best achievement
I‘ve had some big musical achievements recently - I’m still unsigned so have very little promotion other than word of mouth from fans, that said the new EP has been played on radio one by Zane Lowe and Fearne Cotton, and it charted in the top 50 albums in iTunes when it was released.

Best Advice
Believe in yourself and work hard - cheesy and obvious but true!

Best Inspiration
Newton Faulkner has been the biggest inspiration to me.

Best young memory
When I was about 8 I went to a pantomime in Plymouth where Rolf Harris was performing - He called me up out of the crowd and drew a portrait of me!

Best way to relax
Sounds weird but for me exercise is the best way for me to relax, I manage thoughts better when I’m running and then I’m too tired afterwards to feel too stressed!

Best gift
My grandma left me inheritance money which I bought the guitar I always gig with. I kind of see that as her parting gift.

Best gig
After the operation on my wrist last year I was told I couldn’t use my thumb for 10 weeks as the tendons had been severed and needed time to repair. This was four weeks before going on tour with Ed which was the biggest opportunity of my career so far. I ended up modifying my cast by melting a plectrum into the thumb part and re-taught myself how to play. My best gig has to be the first big gig after my injury supporting Ed Sheeran in front of 2000 people in Bournemouth and the response was phenomenal, I’ll never forget that feeling.
